1) Materials Technology – mainly technology of brick clay and fireproof materials. Improving the material strength (brick clays, roof tiles and fireproof material) by modifying 1) raw material composition, 2) mean particle size and particle size distribution and 3) processing-manufacturing parameters. The laboratory is fully equipped with a pilot scale brick production line, mechanical and physical property measuring equipment and a frost resistance testing apparatus.
2) Incorporation – Recycling of dangerous-toxic industrial Solid Waste and silts into Brick Clay Materials. The goal of this R/D activity is on one hand to dispose of properly and safely these waste materials without deteriorating the physico-mechanical properties of the Brick Clay materials and, on the other hand to achieve special material structure which leads to improved thermal and noise insulating capabilities. The basic research has been completed with the incorporation of a variety of solid wastes (for example municipal sewage sludge, metallurgical wastes and other organic in nature wastes).
3) Energy exploitation of industrial byproducts via their incorporation in brick clays.
4) Biofuel production from algae and pyrolysis of agricultural wastes
5) Liquid waste treatment technologies
6) Environmental in-situ and ex-situ remediation technologies
